Neiman Marcus – Spring Flowers

Nothing quite says Spring like flowers. Photography and digital printing have come a long way in re-producing the vibrant colors of nature, but there is still something about the way the light catches and moves through the petals of a flower that can not quite be captured. While discussing this Spring window design project, the client mused, “I wonder if we could create a 3-D flower to add another layer of dimension”… to which my response was of course “YES!” ,because who doesn’t want to design giant flowers and figure out how to mass produce them? This is where the research process begins. I spend hours or even days searching for the best materials and finishing to capture the exact look and feel that fits the very individual nature of each of my clients projects. I was able to find a beautiful crepe paper that matched the dye-sublimation printed flowers perfectly. After a prototype and some minor revisions to soften up the ridges on the petals, we had almost an exact match to the photographed flowers. We then created a bracket that attached to the fabric frame and voila – 3-D flowers to add that extra layer of dimension. Our job at Steamy Design is to seamlessly bring your ideas to life.
